Cone Azalia is famous for its gravel roads and bumpy tarmac. Its getting to be a Midwest classic. This year it attracted a large roster of Priority Health Elite women that Sam and Erin had to contend with. I’ll let Sam take you through it in her own words:
Cone Azalia – Wow, what an awesome venue. I was terrified because I am so terrain challenged, but it was so much fun. I panicked lap 1 on the gravel and fell behind so I had to bridge the field and then work with Erin to reel back a break of 2 Priority Health riders (one of which was the eventual winner). Lap 2 I lost touch again (darn gravel..!) and found myself in between with a break of 4 including my team mate, Erin, off the front. I felt good knowing she was there so no worries about chasing although I did try a few times to break off to bridge or finish solo…. no luck. I took the field sprint and Erin almost snagged the top spot. We’ll take it, 2nd and 5th, not bad for a couple of pure roadies.
Erin was outnumbered in the break, but narrowly missed the win by half a wheel to Mackenzie Woodring of Priority Health. Way to go!!
